The idea for this association has been long in the mind of Uturu indigenes residing in the United States; however, the first convention was held in 2003 in Dallas Texas. The idea then was to form Uturu Development Union (UDU) in USA. In that meeting, there was no president neither was an election held. Those present in that convention brain stormed and came up with several ideas. One of the strongest ideas that was followed was that of Prince Nwaro who advised for us to pick one thing or project, finish it before tackling or going to another project. His suggestion was that the Town hall will be a good project to start with. Those present at the meeting agreed that since Eddy Nwokocha was the local President then in Dallas Texas, it will be good to ask him to be the national president with other Dallas officials to act as the officials of the association till Houston convention in 2005. At the Houston Texas convention Alex Okoma was elected the first official president of the association in 2005.
